Flying Scout

Not sure if I ever posted this photo. It was taken March of last year in Scout's Pre-Swimming days. This is when she was scared of the water. Obviously Matt & I straightened her out.

Unitarian Church Graveyard

Very often on my lunch breaks, I take little walks to get some fresh air. One of my favorite little treks is to the Unitarian Church Graveyard. The entrance is off of bustling King street and so many people pass it everyday with out knowing its even there. I love how still and peaceful it is here.

Here is the entrance off of King Street

Once you walk in, it feels like you are in the wrong spot. There are a couple of residential homes on the pathway. (I would love to be the mailman in Charleston)

And Poof! You are in the graveyard.

A lot of the other graveyards in town are very well manicured. This one is not. I kind of like the way perennials take over and the headstones blend into grasses and brush.

Signs of Spring!!!

I've always loved visiting graveyards in Charleston. It amazes me that I'm looking at a tombstone dating from the 1600's. The etchings are barely visible for it has survived hurricanes, the civil war and also the salt air.
Do you have a favorite lunch time escape?

Old Village Walking

Have you ever been somewhere and think, "I belong here."
That's how I feel about the Old Village neighborhood in Mt. Pleasant, SC . I know I've mentioned it before here, but I have to bring it up again.

The other day Scout and I detoured from our usual walk around our hood and drove over to the OV. Back in the day when Matt and I lived in sin and rented a house here I would take almost daily walks discovering new gardens and streets. Much like Downtown Charleston, they always led me to the Charleston Harbor.

The Skeeter loves her Car Rides

First stop was to Alhambra Hall, where we had our wedding reception. Here I can let Scout off leash and burn off some energy so she doesn't pull on the leash.

And we're off. I love this bakery. Every birthday I get the Hummingbird cake. Also, my mom surprised me with a cake from the Village Bakery at our wedding. A Slice of Chocolate Peanut Butter Heaven.

Pitt Street may look familiar. It was used many times in the Notebook.

I told you my brother looks like Ryan Gossling

Ahhhhh.... the Post House. Matt and I had brunch here the day we got engaged.

She makes friends everywhere she goes.

I'd take this house if you wanted to give it to me.

History lessons on every street.

Cute Curly Tail Booty

I did some bench sitting

And harbor watching.

Pretty much the Perfect Neighborhood. Did I mention it has a library, shrimp docks, an awesome creek side watering hole and a pharmacy with a sit up bar.

Someday we will live here (owning a home). I just need a 400,000 more dollars.

Sun Shining Day

It's gorgeous out!! Though I'm working I have a lovely view from the Spa's sundeck looking out over downtown.

If only I was on the receiving end of the Spa treatments rather than the selling. Womp Womp!

Valentines Puzzles Part 3

Now on to the third and final installment of our Valentines Saga.

The answer to the if the Walls came tumblin' down the 'Pair shall perish thrice' was the above pic. The answer was taped behind the frame. On to the next clue.

I had to figure out the what date Jacques de Molay was arrested by King Philip IV. Then once I got the date I had to use the Caesar cipher to solve the above clue. The answer is
Over the Arctic Chill, Past the Isle of Spices, You will find your New World.

So over the fridge I found the above sweet Valentine
And the final gift was an iPhone
It was totally unexpected. Matt worked on this for days and of course it was perfect timing that Verizon just started carrying the iPhone last week.
Readers, get ready to see all my pics from my iPhone. I really need to figure this thing out.

Impulse Buys

The other day I bought myself some Tulips and Clementines. They have given me joy for exactly one week.

What have you done for yourself recently?

Valentines Puzzles Part 2

Alright.. so here is the dealio. After about 1.5 hours of me being frustrated and searching my house high and low I saw one of Matt's books on the Free Masons. Duh... so they are the builders, so what's the vessel??

Then Matt pics up his guitar and starts singing the song 'Moon Shiner'. Finally 15 minutes later i look at the oddly placed Mason Jar in his office. Jackpot!! The clue was taped on the botton of the lid.

Clue numero tres goes like this:

In the Jewish tradition, there is a song.

"Joshua fought the battle of Jericho, Jericho, Jericho.

Joshua fought the battle of Jericho and.... "

RS GSRH DVIV GL SZKKVM, GsV KZRI HSZOO KVIRHS GSIRXV.

So I solved this clue pretty easily. I had to finish the song verse and then solve the puzzle.

To see the answer highlight here ---> Song verse 'the walls came tumblin' down.'

puzzle says: if this were to happen, the pair shall perish thrice

I know y'all don't know my house layout so I'll go over it next post. (mom, you may figure it out) Right now I'm going to go enjoy my sunny Sunday off. Time to take Scouter for a walk.

Valentines Puzzles

So my awesome hubby started my Valentines early

Today at work I got the following message:

SZKKB EZOVMGRMVH WZB.
ZDZB DV TL!!
TLLW OFXP. TLWHKEEW.

Yes... Matt created a cryptic code that I had to crack. Once I figured it out I called him feeling victorious. He then told me this was just the beginning. There are still 3 more codes.

The answer to the above message is written in white. If you want to know the answer highlight HERE ---> Happy Valentines Day. Away we go! Good Luck. Godspeed.

So I got home and this was given to me

(KQI are my initials)
Inside I found candy and a long strip of paper

At this point Matt told me it was a Scytale. So I walked around the house trying to find out what he used to wrap it around to figure out the message.

The object was a whiffle ball bat and the message was:
Find the Vessel of the Builders

So that is where I am on the hunt right now... Builders Vessel??? Cup, bowl? Boat?

I'll keep you posted. So what are your plans for Valentines Day? Does it involve invisible ink and metal detectors? I have a feeling that's where we are heading.

It's Peanut Butter Jelly Time

Call me CRAZY, but I kind of love this PB&J Painting. Wouldn't it be fun in a cute kitchen nook or the kids playroom?

Rainy Saturday

So today is the first Saturday I have off from work since who knows when. It's also the first time probably in a year I have a Saturday off when I'm not traveling away from home... So what am I doing today you ask?

I dog sat for a girlfriend of mine last night. So this morning Bowman, Scout and I cuddled on the couch and watched Spanglish.

We dropped Mr. B off and went out for breakfast and then stopped by Bed Bath and Beyond. Typical.

We went straight to the grocery store and gathered up our Super Bowl items.

Next up was cleaning the house. With music and rubber gloves on, I went to town on baseboards, cabinets and walls. Matt did the vacuuming and cleaned the fireplace.

Still to come this evening is making some peach cobbler for our guests. Which also means I will have a burnt tongue in a couple of hours. I'm so impatient with things hot out of the oven.

Oh, and Scout wanted to share this series of events with y'all. This is how last night went with Bowman.
Couch Wars
Scout: "Um.. Hi Bowman. Excuse me but you are laying on my mama in my spot."
Bowman: "Oh, sorry Scout. Your mama is really comfy and she smells like Mexican Food." (Quesadilla last night)
Scout: "Yes, she is comfy and she scratches behind my ears for me. Do you think we could share her?"
Bowman: "Sure we can share. I'll give her back tomorrow. You see my mama isn't around tonight and I'm missing her terribly."
Scout: "Did you lose your mama down there?"
Bowman: "Nope not there silly. I'm not sure where she is."
Scout: "Well you sit tight Mr. B and I'm gonna go find your mama!"
Bowman: "Sounds like a plan pal! Miss Kristen, you may continue scratching my belly."
Sorry for being cheesy... Scout just really wanted to share the story.
I LOVE SATURDAYS!

Valentines Inspiration

Love it or Hate it, Valentines Day is right around the corner.

Personally I'm a fan. Matt and I always say we aren't doing anything but he usually surprises me.
